Primerica, a division of Citigroup, was founded in 1977 by Arthur L Williams, based out of Duluth Georgia. The companies humble beginnings started when Williams hired part time sales people to sell term life insurance in place of the more expensive whole life. The sales pitch or premise was to invest the difference and eventually you will have enough through your investments in which you can cancel the term life.
Currently, Primerica is a division of Citigroup, however, most independent representatives within the Primerica label no longer reference the parent company. In years past, this was something they proudly did, however with the recent Citigroup loss of 20 billion dollars and a 77 percent loss of it’s market value, this is no longer the case. It has been rumored several times that Citigroup was trying to sell the subsidiary.
Primerica has about 100,000 par-time sales people with over 6 million customers. The independent sales people focus on the recruitment of other sales people as well as the selling of mutual funds, loans and other investment products. The company had a revenue of 2.3 billion dollars in 2007 with a net profit of 544 million dollars.
The company has representatives in all 50 states, Canada and Spain.
As an independent sales person with Primerica a division of Citigroup you make money several ways. First, promoting the financial investment products by booking appointments with people doing a financial needs analysis and second by recruiting others to be in your sales organization. The challenge many people have with this program is many people starting part time are not in a solid financial position themselves, which of course makes it challenging to introduce others to the products.
In addition, in order to expand your sales organization you will be encouraged to bring your friends and family to meetings and opportunity presentations. This often causes discomfort and many fail due to this reason.
